Patch Metrics

Area-Edge
- Patch Area(AREA) unit:hectare $AREA=a_{ij}(\frac{1}{10,000})$ $,a_{ij}=area (m^2)$ of patch $ij$
- Patch Perimeter(PERIM) unit:m $PERIM=p_{ij}$, $p_{ij}$ = perimeter(m) of patch $ij$
- Radius of Gyration(GYRATE) unit:m $GYRATE=\sum_{r=1}^{z} \frac{h_{ijr}}{z}$

Shape
- Perimeter-Area Ratio(PARA) unit:NaN $PARA=\frac{p_{ij}}{a_{ij}}$, $p_{ij}=$perimeter(m) of patch $ij$;$a_{ij}=$area($m^2$) of patch $ij$
- Shape Index(SHAPE) unit:NaN $SHAPE=\frac{0.25p_{ij}}{\sqrt{a_{ij}}}$, $p_{ij}=$ perimeter(m) of patch $ij$; $a_{ij}=$area($m^2$) of patch $ij$

- Related Circumscribing Circle(CIRCLE) $CIRCLE(SQUARE)=1-\frac{a_{ij}}{a_{ij}^{smallest}}$, $0\leq CIRCLE< 1$
- Contiguity Index(CONTIG) $CONTIG=\frac{[\frac{\sum^z_{r=1}c_{ijr}}{a_{ij}^*}]-1}{v-1}$, $c_{ijr}=$ contiguity value for pixel $r$ in patch $ij$;$v=$sum of the values in a 3-by-3 cell templates;$a_{ij}^* =$ area of patch $ij$ in terms of number of cells.

Aggregation
- Euclidean Nearest-Neighbor Distance(ENN) unit:m $ENN=h_{ij}$,$h_{ij}=$ distance(m) from patch $ij$ to nearest neighboring patch of the same type(class), based on patch edge-to-edge distance,computed from cell ceter to cell center.
- Proximity Index(PROX) $PROX=\sum_{s=1}^a\frac{a_{ijs}}{h^2_{ijs}}$,$a_{ijs}=area($m^2$)$ of patch $ijs$ within specified neighborhood($m$) of patch $ij$;$h_{ijs}=$ distance(m) between patch $ijs$, based on patch edge-to-edge distance, computed from cell center to cell center.

Area-Edge
- Total Area(TA/CA) unit:hectare
- Percentage of Landscape(PLAND) unit:NaN $PLAND=P_{i}=\frac{\sum_{j=1}^n a_{ij}}{A}(100)$, $P_i=$ proportion of the landscape occupied by patch type(class) $i$;$a_{ij}=$ area($m^2$) of patch $ij$;$A=$ total landscape area($m^2$)
