The potentials of each person's innate four quotients are developed through the individual growing environment over time. An individual growing environment includes the living environment, social environment, educational environment, and so on.
The potentials of four quotients are akin to the four types of minerals. The quality and total content of iron in an iron ore is likened to the innate potential of a human’s intelligent quotient; the quality and total content of copper in a copper mine is likened to the innate potential of a human’s emotional intelligence; the quality and total content of silver in a silver mine is likened to the innate potential of a human’s spiritual quotient; the quality and total content of gold in a gold mine is likened to the innate potential of a man’s moral quotient.
The development of the four quotients is similar to the processing and refining of the four ores. The metal’s content, the extraction, and capacity to refine are the three determining factors in the total quantity and quality of the metals.
If the content of metal in an ore reaches 70-80%, processing and refining become simpler and easier. Even with the lack of skills, if the process goes well, it will have a significant production. If the content of metal in an ore is only 1-10%, it becomes difficult to process and extract, even with the up-skilling techniques, the processed content of metal will be vey little.
The development of the four quotients of human beings are the same, so it we need not discuss it here.
The development of the four quotients of man can also be compared to the cultivation of plants. The seeds of plants are like the innate potential of the four quotients of human beings. The cultivation of plants, such as the climate, the quality of soils, the altitude, water, sunlight and other external conditions are all very important. However, the most important factors are the skills and the hard work that people put into cultivating plants.
Of course, none of these metaphors are appropriate, because humans are spiritual creatures. The operation of the human body and mind is complex and profound; ordinary people cannot conceptualize it.
Modern biological science shows that the genes of children are very close to their parents’, with no abrupt gene mutation. However, the four quotients between children and parents are vast and diverse. This was discussed in greater detail in the previous chapter.
It can be determined that the four quotients of human beings do not originate from the human body. The human body is a very complex and sophisticated tool, and the four quotients can be separated from the body. Just like a person driving an excavator, if they are skilled enough, they can use the excavator to dig stones, to pave roads, build walls, and even open beer bottle caps. Nevertheless, they are able to get out of the excavator and can be separated from the machine. We will discuss this aspect in more detail later.
Growing environment is a very important factor, but the innate potential of the four quotients is even more significant, which can be seen as the metal contained in the ore or be compared to the various, diverse breeds of plants. The breed of a plant determines what kind of a plant it will grow into. Perhaps a flower, a shrub, a crop or a big tree? For example, a monkey will always be a monkey no matter how hard it strives and persists. When achieving the highest realm it becomes the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. And regardless how hard a pig cultivates and how far it has developed, it will always be a pig, and when achieving the highest realm, it becomes a Zhu Bajie (monk pig) .
The potentials of the four quotients are different for each person. And anyone with a different growing environment will achieve a different degree of development of the four quotients.
Nowadays, education is mainly focused on the development of intelligent quotient and the training in a variety of skills; however the educational models and teaching materials are standardized in our society, this results very few differences in an educational environment. Since the potentials of the intelligent quotient and the framed structure of the intelligent quotient are varied, it can be seen from an early age that everyone's academic performance differs greatly.
Everyone’s intelligent quotient and education level are not in proportion. Some people only receive elementary school education, but their intelligent quotient is very high. Some people graduate from college, but their intelligent quotient is average, it is just that they have the blessing and opportunity to receive higher education.
Since the teaching of emotional intelligence is not available in the current school system, emotional intelligence is only developed to a minimal degree through interaction within social and family circles. Only a small number of people with potential, emotional intelligence do well in the society, such people are often able to be leaders, entrepreneurs or executives.
There is almost no spiritual quotient development in school education system, and only a minute number of people with high spiritual quotient potentials become innovative scientists or they become masters who cultivate well and acquire great wisdom.
Nowadays, even though schools are also promoting the education of moral quotient, with an insufficient supply of teachers coupled with no systematic, professional trainings readily available; as a consequence, most people‘s moral quotient is poorly developed. Only a few people with the talent of moral quotient excel to be the elite of society and the backbone of the nation.
Therefore, the society today as a whole is under low spiritual quotient and moral quotient. Among the people with relatively low spiritual and moral quotients, some may also have low intelligence quotient and emotional quotient at the same time; these people usually live on the edge of poverty and dare not to have too many desires. Survival is their greatest wish and they make up the majority of the population.
Some people's intelligent quotient and emotional quotient are average, but having low dimensionality of life, they often have more desires, more pain, and more troubles in life.
There exists one type who have very low spiritual and moral quotients but acquire a higher intelligent quotient and emotional quotient, as Professor Qian Liqun said, “they are a group of ‘elite egocentric people’.” They are sophisticated, cunning, good at deception, and they cooperate well. They are also well versed with the system to achieve their goals. Once such people are in power, they flatter, form cliques, and engage in conspiracies. They are more detrimental than the ordinary corrupted officials.
In the present time, there are only a limited number of people with relatively high spiritual and moral quotient. Among these people, regardless of their high, average or low intelligent quotient and emotional quotient, due to their higher dimensionality of life, they often desire less, are more contented, less troubled, and have less pain. Either they receive high or low incomes, are with or without a diploma, and life is generally happier and more comfortable for them.
As the modern society emphasizes greatly on the developing and the forging of the human intelligent quotient, but not placing values or having enough teachers in the development of the other three quotients, in consequence, the overall intelligent quotient of the society is comparatively high, while the other three quotients are low; so, most people are becoming blunt and rude egoists who will just play ingenious tricks to deceive themselves and others.
When will human beings begin to reflect?
